Mark 9:23-24

June 29th, 2010

“I do believe! Help my unbelief!”

This is one of my favorite Bible verses. I pray this prayer all the time! Do you?

How often do we find ourselves in church wondering what the heck we’re doing there? Is it because my parents make me go? Because of the cute girl sitting two rows in front? Why?

Do I believe what I’m saying at Mass? Do I believe what I’m seeing? Most of us believe something, if not it all, or we wouldn’t be there. If we do struggle with belief there is probably a part of us that wishes we didn’t have that struggle. Its a pretty common thing.

That’s the beauty of this prayer. Lord! I do believe… but I’m not where I want to be… help me! Help my unbelief!

There is power in these words!

If you’re struggling with your faith I encourage you not to give up. Turn to Jesus, even if its only a small turn, turn anyway and ask Him for help.

It may not come in the form you expect it… but He will help your unbelief.

Keep pushing forward.

God bless,

Jim

“Get A Life”

October 7th, 2009

Last Sunday was “Respect Life” Sunday and October is “Respect Life” month. You may have seen in the bulletin, or driven by, or even participated in Epiphany’s “Prayer Chain” on Sunday afternoon from 2-3PM.
There was an impressive turn out and we lined college avenue from beyond the lights at Grandview up to the rectory drive [...]

Jim’s talk from Pick A Clique

September 23rd, 2009

I’d thought I’d start posting my talks from Life Nights and other events here on the website in case anyone missed the night or wanted to go over it again. I’ll encourage the CORE to do the same with their talks.
Here is my first one: “Facing the Giants”
Read Psalm 35:15-16
Tonight we began with a game [...]

Men’s & Women’s Night Wednesday September 16th

September 8th, 2009

Women’s session:
“FertilityCare: Creating a Culture of Life in Women’s Healthcare”

We are made in God’s images, but even that can be a complicated thing for us to understand. As Women we need to be proactive in receiving the best and most accurate information about how a woman’s cycle works, and ways of finding the most natural [...]

Birthday Wishes

September 1st, 2009

Last Friday was my 29th birthday. It was a great day! I took the day off and spent it with my family. That night the three of us went to Mass and then out to eat at Alexander’s Steak house. I normally grill my own steak there, that’s why I really like going there, but [...]

Getting Involved

August 25th, 2009

Summer has just about come and gone. I think most of you are back in school now. I know the Epiphany grade schoolers have been back for almost a week now. It’s crazy how fast our summers can go by, especially when you’re busy.
Now that the summer is over, I wanted to take the time [...]

Rain

August 19th, 2009

Sitting in the office working this afternoon when suddenly an alarm sounds… no it wasn’t a tornado warning, but it was the churches severe weather warning system.
The severe thunderstorm they warned about has just arrived, about 20 minutes later. It’s amazing, it looks like night outside as the rain pours down in blankets. I can [...]

One game out & a new back-up?

August 7th, 2009

The Sox have had a stellar week… let me repeat… stellar. After losing 6 straight… sorry let me say that again… 6 straight! They’ve (noticed I’m referring to them as ‘they’ now, not we- but let’s be honest, they’ll always be ‘we’ in my heart-) fallen 2 games back to the dreaded Spankees (sorry, Yankees).
What [...]

Waiting For Baby

August 7th, 2009

For those of you who were at JFF on Wednesday night know that it looked like Amanda was beginning to go into labor. 10 hours later we are still waiting for that labor to begin.
She is contracting, but nothing is happening. Our daily lives continue as they have. It really feels like the calm before [...]

2 Games

August 7th, 2009

I caught the end of the Cardinals Cubs game yesterday and with Milk away from the known world for a few days at TEC I thought I’d make a few comments from what I saw. And thanks to MLB.com and my All-Star voting, I’m able to watch the Sox for a few days with a [...]

Red Sox

August 5th, 2009

As we head into the All Star break you would think we would be in a good spot. We’ve got 6, count them 6 All Stars headed to the game in good ole St. Louis and the last time the Sox were in town in 04 things turned out alright for us.
But, of course, with [...]

July 9th, 2009

I’ve never been on a TEC before, but I have been on a Koinia (I’m pretty sure I spelt that wrong) which is a college form of TEC at U of I and ISU, among other colleges in the area, and I have also be on a Cursio (pretty sure I spelt that wrong too), [...]

July 2nd, 2009

Starting next week I’ll be changing our weekly drop in hours to Wednesday through Friday, still from 1-5pm. I’ll be using Tuesday’s as a “business day.”
If you haven’t made it to a drop in hour yet you should come on by. It’s completely unorganized! No, really, that’s a good thing. I’m here in [...]

Give God Your Very Best

June 26th, 2009

So I was thinking of my last post, and thinking about Amanda being on bedrest and I realized that God has given me the perfect opportunity to take what I learned on our Memphis trip and apply it back home. With Amanda on bedrest she isn’t able to cook dinners or do laundry or other things [...]

Office Hours: Friday June 26th

June 26th, 2009

Hey guys,
My office hours are going to be a little sporadic over the next couple of weeks. Please keep Amanda in your prayers as the doctor has put her on bedrest. She’s doing fine, all this means is she has to stay home and lay down. She needs to stay relaxed because the baby is [...]

Memphis

June 26th, 2009

I’ve been back from Memphis for almost a week now and I’ve had time to reflect on my time down there. I was hesitant going down, not knowing what to expect. I had heard they were going to split our group up so we were working with different people. I didn’t want to do that [...]

Right & Wrong

June 9th, 2009

G.K Chesterton once wrote:“Fallacies do not cease to be fallacies because they become fashions.”
I believe this is really a fancy way of saying, ‘just because everyone is jumping off the bridge doesn’t mean you should too!”
But of course there is probably a little bit more to it too. His quote is an encouragement or a [...]

Random thoughts by Jim

May 29th, 2009

So today is the first day of summer break for Epiphany school. Or so I think… the school is completely empty! To say it’s a little earie, wouldn’t be a lie.
All the more reason for teens to come by and bring some life to this building during the summer! Don’t forget about our extended drop [...]
